I think that if it pumped for longer, after 3 mins enough water should have circulated and heat soaked back into it from the turbo to trip the heat switch, at which point the original heat based circuit takes over, and continues untill the turbo has cooled sufficiently (however long this may take). basically my pump runs for 30 secs, and doesn't pump enough coolant round to trip the heat switch. Thats exactly why i wanted a longer timer on it. This also explains the diffences in noise the aux pump makes : it somnetimnes has to pump (water) vapour. (the line is empty !) So the sensor in the line doesn't feel anything. Volvofox wrote:I have noticed that the coolant line, at least as the engine is hot and off, is cooked dry !. Keep us informed about what you test and do. better take the simples one whitout causing further probs.! I think the most simple and cost effective way to solve your "problem " is not by making fancy wire diagrams(cool btw!) (be sure they don't use power in rest of the car (eg.drain battery) but just by eitherġ) place the "loose" sensor in a hotter place, next to the exhaust for instanceĢ) short cut it as you leave the car with just a ("make-spring return" tip swith.) the original timers will do the rest : the pump will move away the vapour out of the line and the coolant sensor will sense and take over. ![]() it is wired topgether with the one in the turbo coolant line. The other sensor is the one screwed to the bock. I have noticed that the coolant line, at least as the engine is hot and off, is cooked dry !. In this way the car would cool also if the tubo would still be hot after 3 minutes I would use the volvo designers route to improve it, I mean use the factor temperature (better) instead of time. for instance, it has no use the aux pump runs just after you drove the car out of the garage on the street to wash it. Maybe the basis point should not be time after shutting off engine, but temperature. I drove my car a long time whitout the sensor on the turbo coolant line, for the simple fact it was sheared off, and not in the volvo system (belgium, nl, and germany) available. I get the idea they need to work like the current relay for the aux water pump, just with longer timer parts. ![]() So, I have worked out which wire needs power to keep the engine on, but dash and everything else off, and the one for the aux pump, but where would i be able to find, and how should i wire:ģ minute timer relay to come on when i switch the ignition off, to keep the engine running, (with a switch to overide this if i haven't been caning it, i can use the spare switch by the heated seat buttons) Then, when that relay goes off, another 3 minute relay to run the aux water pump with the engine off. (all the wiring, sensors work, it just doesn't get hot enough water round it) I also want the aux water pump to run for say 3mins automatically, when the engine goes off, as the older turbo's have a different routing of the coolant pipes and the pump on mine never comes on after the 30 secs. I alwaya let my turbo idle for a few minutes after a bout of fast driving (thats all the time then ) but of course this means waiting and guarding the car to make sure no-one buggers off with it.
